Snowfall Expected In GA Amid Wind Advisory, Frigid Temps

As an Arctic blast continues to cover the East Coast, snow could fall in parts of Georgia as temperatures drop, weather officials say.

ATLANTA, GA — Snow could fall in north Georgia on Monday afternoon, while frigid temperatures may significantly cool down residents statewide this week.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers include brief moderate snowfall that could accumulate. However, the NWS predicted Monday's snow showers could leave no trace.

They are set to come ahead of a strong cold front, the NWS reported in its hazardous weather outlook.

Elsewhere, rainfall may introduce lightning in the north and central region, including metro Atlanta, through Monday. As wind gusts could climb to 35 mph, a wind advisory has been issued for the entire region through 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The advisory is set to end at 4 p.m. Monday for the Savannah area.

This is before low temperatures dip for the remainder of the week. On Friday, the National Weather Service told Patch that temperatures could drop into the teens this week.

AccuWeather continues to predict that an Arctic blast covers the East Coast, freezing the Southeast. Georgia joins Louisiana, Alabama and several other coastal states that may receive temperatures 12 to 25 degrees below the historical average.

Subfreezing temperatures may be a problem in Georgia, AccuWeather reported.

Around 10:15 a.m. Monday, the National Weather Service predicted the following detailed forecast for metro Atlanta:

Today: Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 33 by 5 p.m. West wind 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Northwest wind 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 39. Northwest wind 10-15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 24. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 41. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 23.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 40.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Friday: A slight chance of snow before 1 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Friday Night: Rain and snow likely before 1 a.m., then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 41.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44.
