Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:
- On Oct. 1, the Atlanta Design Festival will return to Georgia. Running through Oct. 11, the event includes in-depth architectural tours of Atlanta and Serenbe. There will also be a conference where architects and designers will share their experiences and answer questions. Seventeen modern buildings in the area will be showcased during the festival. (Reporter Newspapers)
- Atlanta police are asking the public for any information they may have regarding a home shooting. Officers were called to the scene on Walker Street on Sep. 1. Multiple people were seen shooting at each other before fleeing the scene. Although no one was injured, property was damaged. The suspects still have not been identified, and there is no word on what led to the shooting. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- One person is dead and others have been injured after a deadly pile-up on I-75 yesterday. The accident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on the Downtown Connector. At some point during the crash, fuel spilled out and covered the highway. Traffic was shut down for three hours before the wreckage could be cleared. There have been no reports on what may have caused the accident. (Atlanta Patch)
- Atlanta police were forced to evacuate their office at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport due to a major rodent issue. Officers were horrified to discover a dead three-pound rat in the ceiling of their office after noticing a disgusting smell. Officials are concerned this indicates a serious infestation throughout the building. Atlanta officers, concerned for their personal health and well-being, are demanding their work environment at the airport be up to safety standards. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Hurricane Ian is going to make for a wet weekend. Rain is expected to start in the metro Atlanta area sometime on Friday. Saturday, however, will see the worst of Ian. Experts believe the metro could experience up to five inches of rain and wind gusts up to 39 mph. East Georgia runs a risk of isolated tornadoes. (CBS 46 News)
