Here are the top three stories in Augusta today:

  1. Augusta may be facing $2 million in IRS penalties for not properly filing paperwork related to the Affordable Care Act, according to sources within the city government. The matter was reportedly discussed at the last executive session, which is closed to the public; at present, it is not known how many years the city failed to properly file the paperwork. Employers are required to file annual paperwork with the IRS related to the source of employees' health insurance coverage, and failure to do so can result in consequences from the IRS. (WRDW)
  2. The 12th annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy competition will take place from Apr. 17-28, with law firms, legal organizations, corporate or in-house counsel, clerks, and judges competing to collect donations for the Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta. All monetary donations received during the two-week competition will directly benefit the organization’s 11,000-square-mile service area during the summer months. Last year, the competition raised over $33,000 for the food bank, which translated to over 99,000 meals. (WRDW)
  3. A local mother is organizing a walk and breakfast to raise awareness of autism in the community. Deidre Robinson and her son Marshall were featured on Good Morning Augusta to discuss the upcoming events. The walk will take place on Apr. 2 at Lake Olmstead Park, while the breakfast will be held on Apr. 29 at the Augusta-Richmond County Public Library. (WJBF-TV)
