1. Augusta arena project gets update. Will it have a new name soon? (augustachronicle.com) — Construction of Augusta’s new downtown arena on the former James Brown Arena site is on schedule and funded by a voter-approved sales tax, with major structural work already underway. Officials say the venue should open in 2027, potentially under a sponsored name, and it’s slated to host a new ECHL hockey team owned by Tim Tebow and David Hodges.
   

2. Augusta Charter Review Committee finishes first year with great progress (wfxg.com) — Augusta-Richmond County’s Charter Review Committee just wrapped its first year and is eyeing a major change: creating a professional county manager to take over many duties now handled by the mayor. Members plan public town halls, likely starting in January 2026, so Augusta residents can weigh in before any final recommendations are made about how their local government is structured.
   

3. Local nonprofits see surge in winter need, seek community donations (wrdw.com) — Augusta nonprofits say demand for help has nearly doubled or tripled this winter and are urgently asking residents to donate money, canned goods, and winter supplies. The Augusta Dream Center and United Way of the CSRA especially need heaters, blankets, tents, and other cold-weather essentials to keep vulnerable neighbors safe as resources grow thin.
   

4. Augusta routs Reinhardt on Columbia County Education Day (wjbf.com) — Augusta University’s men’s basketball team treated more than 2,000 Columbia County fifth graders to a loud, high-energy Education Day win at Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Jags routed Reinhardt 97–62, but players and coaches say the real victory was giving local students a fun taste of college basketball, autographs, and holiday cheer with Santa.
