Here are the top three stories in Augusta today:
- According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, two people were found dead in their Georgia home during a wellness check after missing their rent payment. The deaths were described as "suspicious" and the identities of the bodies have not been confirmed. The bodies were discovered weeks after the individuals had died and are undergoing autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. (The State)
- The North Augusta Department of Public Safety has re-engaged the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies in its efforts to seek national accreditation. The process involves a year-long examination of departmental policies to ensure compliance with the best practices in law enforcement and will include an assessor on site from Mar. 20-23 to meet with department members and the community. The department withdrew from the accreditation process last year but has now resumed it after hiring a new public information officer. (Subscription: The Augusta Chronicle)
- Commen Gunn, CEO of the Augusta Youth Debutante Society, was fatally shot. Her husband, Shawn Gunn, is currently suspected of the crime and in the hospital after a shootout with deputies. Neighbors reported hearing frequent arguments from the couple's townhome, and Gunn has faced domestic violence charges before. (WJBF)
