Barrow Sheriff's Office Warns Of IRS Scam

A woman is accused of impersonating an IRS field agent Tuesday afternoon.

BARROW COUNTY, GA — Authorities are warning residents about a scam after a woman is accused of impersonating an IRS field agent Tuesday afternoon.

A man said the woman came to his home, identified herself as a field agent then presented a business card with a false phone number and address, according to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.

The woman told the man she was serving a lien for payroll taxes, authorities said. The woman attempted to get more information from the man, but he told her to leave, authorities said.

Authorities identified the woman as African-American, about 5-feet-3-inches tall with short black hair. She appeared to be in her early 30s and was driving a blue Kia Stinger, authorities said.

"This is a scam and this person is not with the IRS. If anyone has anyone approach their home or business in this manner, please call 911 immediately," authorities said.
