25 Buckhead Leaders Participate in Buckhead Coalition's One-Time Program

Building on its legacy of community leadership, the Buckhead Coalition has designed a one-time program named the Diplomatic Leadership Corps. Β This is a high-intensity, one-week introduction to business leadership for 25 Buckhead area residents in the 25-year age bracket, in recognition of the Coalition’s 25th anniversary.Β  Β

Introduced by Coalition president and former Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell, the initial day has consisted of the following presentations:Β  β€œCivic Service/Volunteerism” by Atlanta/Fulton League of Women Voters; β€œPublic Candidacy/Government” by Georgia Municipal Association; β€œVision Stewardship/Mentoring” by It’s Time To Get Organized; β€œFund Raising/Charity” by the Georgia Center for Non-Profits, and β€œOffice Politics/Ethics” by Buckhead Business Association.Β  Β

Four days of academic training followed the overall indoctrination.Β  This consisted of the β€œAdaptive Leadership” program conducted by Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business.Β  Upon completion, a graduation β€œCertificate Presentation” reception concluded the program.Β  Β

This β€œDiplomatic Leadership Corps” program was coΓΆrdinated by Coalition Director of Community Development Garth Peters.Β  The cost budgeted is approximately $123,400, but is being provided free-of-charge to the applicants chosen.

Coalition Chairman Dave Fitzgerald observes, β€œWe attribute the success the Buckhead Community enjoys to leadership from all quarters - - 41 neighborhood organizations, 34 religious congregations, 13 parent-teacher associations, 9 civic/service clubs, and others.Β  With this new class of β€˜25’, we provideΒ  insurance for the future.”  Massell added, β€œI hope they will all start by getting involved as volunteers in the upcoming Atlanta City elections, which will be a good way to test the public-private partnerships studied.” Β
