Here are the top three stories in Buckhead today:
- On Wednesday, officers captured one of the Atlanta Police Department (APD)'s most wanted persons. 32-year-old Jordan Pack was wanted for three separate aggravated assault incidents, as well as multiple other charges. Pack was transported to the Fulton County Jail, where he remains in custody. Bodycam footage of the capture and additional information can be viewed at the link. (City of Atlanta Police Department via Facebook)
- Earlier this week, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens joined a group of U.S. leaders in Geneva to present to the U.N. Human Rights Treaty Bodies Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. During the presentation, Mayor Dickens discussed Atlanta's leadership in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. "We are a city committed to human rights and stand firmly against racial discrimination," said the mayor to the Committee. "We are the voice of the voiceless and will continue to be the catalyst for change."(City of Atlanta, Georgia)
- Monkeypox and COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Georgia, especially in the Atlanta metro. Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) host Leah Fleming recently spoke with GPB's senior health reporter Ellen Elridge to discuss the state of both viruses in Georgia and Atlanta. According to Elridge, monkeypox cases have been disproportionately affecting men who have sex with men, communities of color, and those in and around Atlanta. COVID-19, on the other hand, has had high levels of transmissions across communities and statewide β due in part to variants like BA.5. (Reporter Newspapers)
