Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- In late November, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) sent officers to 171 17th Street Northwest because of reports stating that multiple people had been shot. One person died from his injuries. At the time, officers determined that βgroups of juvenilesβ were made to leave Atlantic Station. In the process, the youngsters got into a dispute and shots were fired. In the last couple of weeks, the APD arrested three suspects in the case. Two 15-year-olds and an adult were arrested. Investigations took officers to Zones 1 and 5 as well as to Clayton County. (APD)
- We recently discussed a traffic accident involving a pedestrian advocate in a wheelchair at a hospital zone near Peachtree Road. This week, we have a call for safety improvements. For example, a traffic signal setup in the area could be blocking driversβ view. Besides that, suggestions include flashing beacon lights and striped crosswalks. Most importantly, traffic needs to be slowed βin the area where both the Shepherd Clinic and Piedmont Hospital are within two blocks.β (Fox)
- Can you believe itβs taken more than 15 years to enter the final phase βof the Peachtree Road Complete Street project between Piedmont Road and Maple Driveβ? Many of the improvements focused on safety for pedestrians and drivers. Moreover, the project called for better lighting, buried utilities and landscaping. Unfortunately, we donβt have an actual finish date. (Urbanize Atlanta)
- Earlier this week, the Atlanta City Council declared the Tuxedo Park neighborhood a Special Interest District. Any future development of the space must factor in the overall look and feel of the area, βspecifically, maintaining existing patterns of long, rectangular lots with straight side lot lines and deep setbacks.β The neighborhoodβs park-like character is safe. (Buckhead)
- Did you know Paella Day is a thing, and itβs on Monday? Insiders pinpoint Gypsy Kitchen at 3035 Peachtree Road Northeast as the place to eat that day. In fact, the Buckhead Village venue is planning ahead and will offer traditional paellas as well as a vegetarian version. Word has it a flamenco guitarist is part of the entertainment. (Secret Atlanta)
