Atlanta Labor Day Activities Start Tomorrow

Atlanta Police Department Mobile App prepares citizens for holiday events, traffic delays

More than 25 events and an estimated 600,000 people are anticipated to celebrate the Labor Day holiday in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Police Department in partnership with a host of local and government agencies have a comprehensive security plan in place for holiday activities. The security plan includes a strong law enforcement presence in the areas of the city with large Labor Day events including the Georgia Dome, Centennial Olympic Park and Piedmont Park. Additionally, mounted patrol and on and off-duty personnel will be available to assist with traffic and security issues.

The Atlanta Police Department’s mobile app will also help citizens prepare for holiday activities and features a detailed event listing and up-to-date traffic alerts. The mobile app is free and available on both Apple and Android phones.

Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead for traffic delays, increased volume and event restrictions.

Other holiday tips include:

Β· Pack light and check event websites for more information about bringing backpacks, food and other restrictions.

Β· Consider taking MARTA to holiday events, or carpooling, to minimize the traffic volume. On Labor Day, MARTA is inviting everyone to ride its trains and buses at no charge.

Β· Be mindful of parking only in permitted lots and be sure to pay attention to any β€œNo Parking” signs to avoid citations or fines.

Β· Following the Clean Car Campaign by parking in designated areas and removing all valuables from vehicles such as tablets, smart phones and purses.

Β· As always, citizens are encouraged to call 9-1-1 or approach a police officer if they see any suspicious activity or a suspicious package left unattended.
