Atlanta Man Killed By Downed Tree Was Known Realtor

BUCKHEAD, GA β€” The man who died after a tree fell on him during the Sunday evening storms was identified as George T. Heery Jr., a well known Atlanta realtor.

Atlanta Police said officers responded around 6:15 p.m. Sunday to the 300 block of Delmont Drive after receiving a report of a pedestrian being hit by a falling tree.

The 55-year-old man was hit by the downed tree and taken to the hospital in critical condition. He later died of his injuries at the hospital, police said.

Heery was a founding partner of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty, according to an agency Instagram post Monday.

"George’s passing is a heartbreaking loss for his family, our team and the community. He will be deeply missed," the company said in a statement to Patch Tuesday.

The agency said Heery is survived by his wife, Constance, two sons and his brother and business partner, Neal.

"In lieu of flowers, the Heery family would like you to consider donating to the Atlanta Lab Rescue, a cause close to George's heart," company representatives said in the Instagram post.

In a statement, the Atlanta City Council said it was deeply saddened to hear of Heery's death.

"He made remarkable contributions to our community and left an indelible mark on the real estate industry through his unwavering dedication to his clients," the statement said. "Our thoughts are with his family as they navigate through this profound loss. We are hopeful they will find strength and solace in the cherished memories that they have of George. We send our heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, Constance, his sons, and Neal, his brother and business partner."

According to his biography, Heery's career spans 20 years in real estate development, financial analysis, market analysis, investment sales and corporate re-engineering.

"George and his business partner and brother, Neal, are generally regarded as the leading producers and experts specializing in the redevelopment of fine Intown residential locations, including Buckhead, Sandy Springs, etcetera," read his biography.

Heery has worked with commercial real estate investments in the past, according to his bio. He received a bachelor's of arts degree from the Catholic University of America and a master's of arts degree from Georgia State University with an emphasis in real estate, according to his bio.

He liked to swim, bike and run. He was a member of the Atlanta REALTORS Association, member of the Georgia State University Department of Real Estate Honorary Board and accomplished multiple other accolades.
