Ballplayer Allegedly Beaten in Buckhead Bar: ICYMI

The 21-year-old pitcher suffered serious head trauma as a result of the beating, according to a report.

A pitcher for Georgia State University’s baseball team is in the hospital with serious head trauma after his mother says he was beaten senseless at a Buckhead bar over the weekend.

The mother of Dillon Swaggerty, 21, told WSB-TV her son was at Kramer’s on Saturday night dancing with a girl when a group of men surrounded him and shoved him to the ground. Some of the men held Swaggerty down while another man beat him, his mother said.

An Uber driver saw Swaggerty after the beating and offered to drive him home for free, his mother told the news station.

A trainer for the baseball team examined Swaggerty and urged him to go to the hospital, WSB-TV said. He underwent a CAT scan on Monday night and will remain in intensive care.

Atlanta police spokesman Kim Jones told Patch the department was unaware of the incident until Swaggerty’s mother called them Monday evening. An investigator was dispatched to the hospital to interview Swaggerty and police are investigating the incident, Jones said. Jones added that the department has ”nothing to report” on potential leads or suspects as of Wednesday morning.
