
The Rotary Club of Brookhaven announced this week that the Club and its members raised more than $160,000 in cash and in-kind donations at its Third Annual βService Above Self Golf Invitational,β held May 13, 2013, at the Cherokee Country Club.
The event has raised over $425,000 in its first three years, with the primary beneficiary being the Shepherd Centerβs SHARE Military Initiative.
Headline sponsor Magellan Health Services, a specialty health care management company devoted to making health care more affordable during difficult times, led the fundraising efforts for the tournament. Additional major level tournament sponsors included Cunningham Heating and Air Conditioning, Choate Construction, Belk, PNC Wealth Management, Mingledorffβs Distributors/Carrier, Norton Benefit Group, and JW Outfitters.

Founded in 2008, the SHARE Military Initiative is a comprehensive rehabilitation program that focuses on assessment and treatment for service members suffering from brain injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder sustained during the Afghanistan and Iraqi conflicts.Β

Shepherd Centerβs SHARE Military Initiative, which began in 2008, provides rehabilitation care for members of the military who have sustained spinal cord injuries (SCI) or traumatic brain injuries (TBI) while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.Β It also assists, supports and educates members of the military and their families as they return to their homes and communities so they can achieve the highest levels of independence and quality of life.
