Buckhead Attorney Announces Bid for State House District 54 Seat

Elizabeth “Beth” Beskin announced Thursday that she is a candidate for State House district 54 which includes Brookhaven and part of the Buckhead area of Atlanta.

“I’m a small government Republican,” said Beskin. “I’m running for the House because we need true conservative legislators who will work to reduce the size of government and reduce its ever-increasing intrusion into our daily lives.”

She stated in her announcement that she will soon release a proposal for a major property tax cut for senior citizens in our district, as well as to eliminate the Georgia income tax and replace it with a fairer system.

Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Beskin to serve as his liaison to keep him apprised of Atlanta Public Schools’ status when APS faced a potential accreditation loss in 2011. In that capacity, she attended all school board meetings and reported APS’ progress to the Governor’s office.

Beskin worked her way through Tulane University with a combination of scholarships, loans and student jobs.  She earned a masters degree in geology from the University of New Orleans and her law degree from LSU.

Beskin and her husband, Dr. Jim Beskin, an orthopedic surgeon with Peachtree Orthopedic Clinic in Atlanta, have raised two daughters, Alison and Claire, who attended both Atlanta public schools and private schools.  Alison graduated from Westminster in 2009 and Claire graduated from Lovett in 2012.

The Beskins are active members of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta. Beskin serves on the Board of Directors of Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy and serves as Chair of the Watershed subcommittee. She is also Vice-President and a member of the Board of Directors of Brandon Neighborhood Association.
