Buckhead Bar Holds Fundraiser for Fallen Officer

Park Bench, located on Irby Avenue, held a fundraiser Wednesday to benefit the children of one of the officers who died in a helicopter crash earlier this month.

One Buckhead bar held an event Wednesday night to raise money for the children of an Atlanta officer killed in a helicopter crash earlier this month.

Officer Shawn Smiley died, along with the helicopter's pilot Officer, on Nov. 3 when their helicopter crashed while they searched for a missing child in southwest Atlanta.

Park Bench owner Larry Hall told CBS Atlanta that he just wanted to do something to help Smiley's widow and three school-aged children, whom Smiley had promised to take to Disney World before he died.

The bar, usually closed on Wednesdays, held the fundraiser from 5-10 p.m.Β  All of the proceeds went to Smiley's family.

Hall often hires off-duty officers to provide security for the bar, and he said the fundraiser is just a way to thank all officers.
