If the Atlanta Streetcar project proves successful in downtown Atlanta, it could eventually expand to Buckhead. Really.
The streetcar now under construction will run almost three miles from Centennial Olympic Park to the King Center. Once completed, the next possible expansion would be east-west to the Atlanta BeltLine, which is roughly 2.5 blocks away, according to the Reporter Newspapers.
However, about two years' worth of environmental studies would need to be conducted before that expansion could even begin. After that east-west expansion, the next phase could be a north-south expansion into Buckhead via Peachtree Road.
Through the end of July, the city is accepting proposals from companies wanting to run the streetcar system.
