ATLANTA — The parent organization for North Atlanta High School has come out against the prospect of Buckhead becoming its own city.

North Atlanta Parents for Public Schools posted a letter to its web page over the holiday break opposing the cityhood movement and the state Senate Bill 324 that was prefiled to put the cityhood question on the November 2022 ballot.

“The executive board of NAPPS wanted to reach out to you, our fellow parent leaders and advocates across APS, to let you know directly from us, that we are strongly opposed to this legislation and the movement behind it,” the letter said. “Prior to now, we have withheld comment as there had been no actual bill to comment on.”

After a feasibility study favorable to proponents of a Buckhead City was released in September, the Committee for a United Atlanta promoted its own fiscal analysis showing that, among other impacts to Atlanta Public Schools, de-annexing Buckhead from Atlanta would cost the school district more than $332 million.

“We intend to fully support APS's 2022 legislative priority to, "Protect the Atlanta Public Schools property tax base to support quality instruction for all students, including by advocating against legislation that supports the creation of a City of Buckhead," the NAPPS board wrote.
