Here are the top three stories today in Buckhead:

  1. A fired Buckhead preschool administrator is suing her former workplace for racism and discrimination. Dr. Caroline Diaz, who previously served as the preschool director at The Westminster Schools, alleges Westminster breached her contract after she published op-ed pieces about the issues facing Asian educators. The school declined to comment on Diaz's allegations. (Reporter Newspapers)
  2. A local man has been awarded the Carnegie Medal of Heroism for protecting a couple from an armed assailant last summer. Tucker Shields, who was working as an intern in Washington, D.C. at the time, knocked a loaded revolver out of the assailant's hands, then pinned him down until police arrived. The Atlanta native with family in Buckhead said it was a surprise and an honor to receive the award. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. Rock band Starbenders will perform with Palaye Royale at the Buckhead Theatre on Sep. 21. The self-described "glitter punk/rock-and-roll" group hails from the suburbs of Atlanta. Tickets for the show are available for purchase via LiveNation. (WABE 90.1 FM)
