📰 Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- On September 27, two shooting victims were taken to Grady Hospital. Both were shot near Baker Street Northwest at Williams Street Northwest while they were “engaged in an exchange of gunfire with the suspects.” Fast-forward to October 1, and one of the victims died. The Atlanta Police Department (APD) then treated the case as a homicide. On Tuesday, Zone 2 officers arrested a suspect “for Aggravated Assault and Murder.” (APD)
- Speaking of arrests, the APD also arrested a burglary suspect. Officers caught up with the 49-year-old man on February 11 at 532 Cleveland Avenue. While the suspect made a run for it, even jumping through a closed window, he couldn’t escape the long arm of the law. Reportedly, the man had “31 previous arrest cycles, including previous charges for burglary.” (City of Atlanta Police Department)
- Mayor Andre Dickens joined the Mayors for Parks Coalition. Tuesday’s notice highlights this is a bipartisan coalition that focuses on getting “federal funding for our nation’s urban parks.” Mayor Dickens sees this step as a means of addressing inequities as they pertain to “quality parks and recreation opportunities.” (City of Atlanta)
- The Suzuki School, which operates Montessori campuses at 443 East Paces Ferry Road, 600 Peachtree Battle Avenue, and 650 North Avenue Northeast, along with the Montessori Teacher Education Institute of Atlanta at 480 Pharr Road, changed hands. Tuesday’s press release identifies Cadence Education, LLC as the new owner. “Cadence Education boasts a portfolio of nearly 300 premium preschools and elementary schools, spanning 40 diverse brands across the United States.” (yahoo!finance)
- QuiltCon is on! Head out to the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart on February 23 through 26. The headliner is work by Chawne Kimber. Another must-see is the “Lives Taken, Lives Remembered” exhibit made by the Fulton County Remembrance Quilters Project. In addition to these works, we’ll have an awards ceremony and plenty more to see. (QuiltCon)
