πŸ“° Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:

  1. On Sunday morning, Atlanta Police Department (APD) officers responded to the Children's Hughes Spalding Hospital at 35 Jesse Hill Drive Northwest. They found a toddler with a gunshot wound in the hand. The boy was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle coming from the Hunter Hills area. Reportedly, the child was β€œshot during an attempted robbery at a bus stop” while with his mother. (APD)
  2. The area around the so-called Cop City erupted in violence on Sunday. Police officers reportedly arrested 35 people who allegedly β€œattacked Atlanta police officers and construction equipment with Molotov cocktails, commercial-grade fireworks, bricks and large rocks.” Twenty-three of them are now looking at domestic terrorism charges. It’s interesting to note that officials say only two of the suspects are actually from Georgia. However, activists claim that most were from Atlanta. (CNN)
  3. Leaders of the Buckhead City Committee spent Sunday evening letting supporters know that they’ve quit their efforts at cityhood β€œfor now.” They point to Governor Brian Kemp’s β€œcoordinated” effort β€œbehind closed doors” as the reason for the break. However, they’re looking toward 2026, when he leaves office, as a possibility for a return push. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution/paywall)
  4. Pedestrian safety advocate James Curtis survived being hit by a vehicle while in a crosswalk last month. β€œHe’d had front teeth replaced and was healing from a busted nose and ribs, while trying to get a new wheelchair.” It happened near the Shepherd Center at 2020 Peachtree Road Northwest, where Curtis volunteers. Reportedly, it’s the fourth time he was hit. The Georgia Department of Transportation stayed mum. (Saporta Report)
  5. We’re number ... 97! Researchers crunched numbers to determine America’s 182 happiest cities. They looked at depression rates, income growth and similar key factors. At the top of the list is Fremont, CA. At the bottom is Detroit, MI. That said, Atlanta’s first in the State of Georgia. Columbus and Augusta were numbers 174 and 176 respectively. (WalletHub)
