📰 Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- Did you see the smoke coming from the Westin Hotel’s roof last week? At the time, “Cumulus station WNNX(FM) — which goes by '99X' but is heard at 100.5 MHz — posted a video on its Facebook page that day saying that its transmitter was on fire.” Rumors that the fire was a stunt proved false. A spokesperson for Cumulus explained that “the fire was caused by moisture entering the conduit carrying power to the antenna, which caused an arc that reached the fourth and lowest bay of the four-bay main antenna.” (Radio World)
- The Atlanta Police Department (APD) announced an arrest on Wednesday. The case goes back to July, when a 24-year-old woman went missing. She was last seen at 1660 Peachtree Street Northeast. In November, a man was arrested “on an active warrant out of Atlanta for Concealing the Death of Another” in the case of the missing woman. Before that, in August, officers had already arrested another suspect who was “wanted for Murder, Possession of Controlled Substance for Distribution, Concealing the Death of Another, Tampering with Evidence, Financial Identity Fraud and Forgery in the First Degree” in reference to this case. (APD)
- On Monday, Mayor Andre Dickens spoke at the Rotary Club of Buckhead's meeting at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant. The tenor of his message stressed “how his administration is working to combat high rates of violent crime.” However, organizers for the movement to turn Buckhead into an independent city are done waiting. “When the Buckhead City bill passes into law, there will be a referendum set for November 7, 2023,” they tweeted. (GPB)
- On February 4, the Buckhead Theater will host the 10th Annual Alzheimer’s Music Fest. After producing it for the last nine years, the organizer merged with Friends of Disabled Adults and Children. A lineup will include “a few of the most iconic bands to come out of the 90s - Cowboy Mouth, Cracker, and Georgia's own Arrested Development.” (MDJ)
