📰 Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- A 70-year-old man died “on (the) southbound I-75/85 near the Pryor Road overpass.” He was struck by a car on January 7 around 6:30 a.m. The driver, however, didn’t stop. Now, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) is looking for the vehicle and the person behind the wheel. “The vehicle involved is believed to be a 2015-2023 Ford Mustang (color unknown) with front-end damage and missing a driver’s side mirror.” (Rough Draft Atlanta)
- Atlanta firefighters headed to the Terraces at Highbury Court on Monday. Just before noon, they received a report of a structure fire with the possibility of entrapment. When they arrived, they found a three-story building with multiple apartments. Reportedly, the most action was on the third floor. But there’s also good news, “firefighters conducted a primary search of the building before giving the all-clear for occupants.” (APD)
- On Monday evening, Dick’s Sporting Goods reopened its store on Peachtree Road and across the city. “The Georgia Bulldogs beat Texas Christian University in the College Football Playoff National Championship game,” and fans clamored for championship gear. “As soon as the Bulldogs won, the new merch went onto the stands.” Loyal fans wanted to be among the first to show off their appreciation for the team by wearing anything from hoodies to hats. (WSB)
- Buckhead’s Souper Jenny is located at 130 West Paces Ferry Road Northwest, which is inside the Atlanta History Center. Although now one of several successful restaurants, the owner remembers beginning her business some 25 years ago when she “met someone who was a caterer who sort of gave (her) an opportunity.” We learned on Tuesday that she’s paying it forward by giving an opportunity to the Cornbread Sisters. These are two sisters with a fantastic cornbread recipe you can now find at Souper Jenny, where the sisters are also baking the tasty fare. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution/paywall)
- Have you been training for the Atlanta Dogwood Festival Run for the Arts 5K? It’s happening on February 18 at 9 a.m. Participants meet at Piedmont Park at 400 Park Drive. “Runners will gather at the corner of Charles Allen Drive and 10th Street.” Participation benefits the Atlanta High School Arts Exhibition. (Atlanta Dogwood Festival)
