⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, there are dueling studies pointing to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 64.5% don’t like daylight saving time, while 35.5% do.
📰 Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:
- First responders rushed to a Kenny Court home off Peachtree Dunwoody Road on Thursday. They received reports of a toddler falling down an elevator shaft in a private residence. The child dropped two stories and ended up stuck — upside down — between the elevator and the wall. But this story has a happy ending: After shutting off electricity to the elevator and breaking through the wall, responders freed the child, who had sustained only minor injuries. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution/paywall)
- The Atlanta Police Department responded to the 32Hundred Lenox apartments off Lenox Road Friday. A 31-year-old man and his 12-year-old son were shot in the building’s parking lot around 5 a.m. Then, a third person with a gunshot wound signaled to the officers. Reportedly, “someone pulled into the parking lot and started shooting at the father and son.” (Patch, WSB-TV)
- Did you see Friday’s write-up on the Woodhouse Spa on Irby Avenue? Black woman-owned by Stacey Howell, the press chronicled what the transition from customer to owner looks like. Besides outlining a business ethic, Howell touches on community relations and giving back. (Black Enterprise)
- Whenever you enter the Waldorf Astoria at 3376 Peachtree Road Northeast, the first thing you see is the spatial design. Do you ever wonder who worked the miracles? We now have some names. The Bill Lowe Gallery at the Shops of Miami Circle provides a rotating set of art. BHDM Design put it all together. Where did they get their inspiration? Insiders reported last week that they used “the region’s natural greenery, including local dogwood festivals.” (Hotel Management)
- The Epicurean Theatre at 1117 West Peachtree Street wants you to rethink your relationship with chocolate. To this end, it hosts “For the Love of Chocolate” on Tuesday at 6 p.m. If you’ve never tasted chocolate mole sea bass or cacao spiced rub on short ribs, you might want to make some reservations. (Epicurean)
