📰 Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:

1. Earlier we talked about the fire at Fogo de Chão (3101 Piedmont Road Northeast). It turns out that “embers from a small wooden stove” caused the blaze. However, the restaurant was in the news again on Saturday. A crowd gathered and demonstrated over the May 2022 shooting death of a 22-year-old man at the eatery. The young man had been in a “mental health crisis.” (Patch, 11 Alive, 2)
2. Atlanta Public Safety Training Center update: The training center is making news again. On Monday, a lawyer from Atlanta discussed details after taking a closer look at the lease agreement between the city and the Atlanta Police Foundation. Reportedly, and contrary to what City Council members said, “city leaders can legally terminate the controversial project.” In fact, Mayor Andre Dickens could “act unilaterally” to cancel the lease. 3. AlphaGraphics of Buckhead operates at 3424 Peachtree Road Northeast in the Monarch Tower. Its owner is Louis Malooley. On Monday, we learned that the national AlphaGraphics franchisor awarded Malooley with the International Franchise Association Franchisee of the Year award. Congratulations! (Investors Observer)
4. Another Buckhead business also got a shoutout. Motion Stability at 550 Pharr Road Northeast treated golfer Ollie Schniederjans. Monday’s write-up chronicles the career of the athlete who was “the world No. 1 amateur for 41 straight weeks,” until injuries stopped his career. Schniederjans credits Brian Yee of Motion Stability with diagnosing and developing a treatment path. (Golf)
5. The 2023 Atlanta Jazz Festival is coming to Piedmont Park on Memorial Day weekend! Attendance is free, and you can listen to the genre's greats.
