Group Advocates for Green Space in Pine Hills
Friends of Pine Hills Park was created in November 2016 to address balanced growth in area.

BUCKHEAD, GA -- Encroachment from new boutique businesses, big chain stores and mixed-use developments have beset many neighborhoods in metro Atlanta, crowding out the areas' natural beauty and relegating green space to a few parcels here and there.
But a group of homeowners in one of Buckhead's most affluent neighborhoods hopes to change that. The group has united to advocate for balanced growth in Pine Hills.
The Friends of Pine Hills Park was formed in November to advocate for smart growth in the neighborhood encompassing parts of Lenox and East Roxboro roads.

The group recently acquired land for designated green space on Lenox Road, part of District 7, which is represented by City Councilman Howard Shook.
"We are very excited and thankful to Councilman Shook for securing and purchasing this land. We aim to facilitate a careful approach and visionary green space design that fits appropriately within our neighborhood, and provides a natural and passive Park area for all to enjoy" Joe Santifer, the group's founder, said in a news release.

Along with buying four acres on Lenox Road, the group has teamed up with the Atlanta Classical Academy, which has agreed to help clear the land of debris and other safety concerns.
"This early engagement will make way for careful assessment of the topography and natural environment, leading to the most desirable vision for this new green space," Santifer said.
