GA Gas Gauge: Statewide Prices Hit Milestone

The average price for a gallon gasoline in Georgia fell below $2 over the weekend, according to AAA data.

The Georgia average hit $1.98 as of Sunday, 12 cents lower than the previous week. The average is nearly 6 cents down from a month ago and almost 72 cents from a year ago.

The national average price for gasoline has declined 23 consecutive days, with 36 percent of gas stations now selling gas below $2 a gallon, AAA says. Prices in Georgia have dropped for 20 days in a row.

β€œGas prices have been falling at a rate of about a half cent a day, and if that pace continues, the national average will drop below $2 in the next two weeks,” spokesman Mark Jenkins said in the AAA’s weekly gas price brief. β€œBut there is potential for the pump price plunge to slow after oil prices climbed a few bucks last week.”

The lowest price reported Monday in Buckhead on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.39, though several stations within city limits had gas at or less than $2.
