GBI Agent's Weapon, Body Armor Stolen in Buckhead

Thieves broke into five vehicles parked at a hotel parking deck on Tuesday morning, police said.

Atlanta police are looking for the person or persons who broke into five cars in a Buckhead parking deck on Tuesday morning and stole a GBI agent’s weapon and body armor.

A security guard at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites on Sidney Marcus Boulevard discovered the car break-ins at approximately 3 a.m. and notified police, according to an incident report.

The agent told police that he was missing a shotgun, a laptop, body armor, and a bag containing ammunition, the report says.

A GBI spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the agent could be suspended or have his pay docked for not properly storing his equipment in a lock box.

Police are attempting to obtain security camera footage of the incident and have notified the Department of Homeland Security of the theft, according to the report.
