📰 Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:

1. The driver of a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee shot a gun in the 900 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway Northwest on Wednesday. Because they did so when a patrol unit was watching, officers called in the Atlanta Police Department (APD) Air Unit. Monitoring saw the Jeep start to drive “recklessly at high speeds.” The driver abandoned the vehicle near the 3900 block of Campbellton Road Southwest. Despite K-9 units joining the search, the “suspect remains outstanding.” (APD)
2. A single-engine Piper-28 plane crashed at the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport on Thursday afternoon. It took off from the airport but returned and crashed into a grassy space. Reportedly, the plane was in a training session when the pilot and student encountered engine problems. Both are in a hospital right now. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
3. How strong — or weak — is Mayor Andre Dickens’ support for the public safety training center? We learned on Thursday that an online survey only yielded 685 responses, which is a response rate of 2%. Even so, the mayor used it to tell the Atlanta Press Club audience that “69% of Atlantans say they want to have a public safety training center for police and firefighters.” The actual number is 61%. 4. When your four-legged friend or other animal companion needs veterinary care, you can now head over to the new GoodVets West Buckhead at 2275 Marietta Boulevard Northwest. Construction finished last month, and Charles McMillan, DVM is ready to welcome patients. “To celebrate the grand opening, GoodVets West Buckhead is offering free first exams to new patients.” (DVM 360)
5. Phipps Plaza at 3500 Peachtree Road Northeast is the place to be for retailers who can live up to the demands of the “No. 1 luxury shopping, elevated dining, and modern mixed-use destination in all of the Southeast.” Already, 10 new retailers are champing at the bit to come in, including Alexander McQueen, Balmain and ETRO.
