π° Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- In early February, we talked about an elevator accident involving a toddler at a Kenny Court home off Peachtree Dunwoody Road. On Thursday, an I-Team investigation revealed that the elevator malfunction βmay affect dozens of in-home elevators across Georgia.β It turns out that the elevator doorβs locking system, which would keep it shut when not at a floor level, didnβt work. Adding insult to injury, the elevator passed an inspection just a couple of days earlier. Bella Elevator is the manufacturer and American Elevator of Atlanta is the installer; if you have one of these units, have it reinspected! (Patch, Fox)
- Buckhead cityhood update: The Georgia Senate put the kibosh on SB 114, the public referendum for cityhood. The vote came out 33 to 23 against it. Senator Frank Ginn, a no vote, justified his opposition by saying he doesnβt βwant to see our capital city die.β Mayor Andre Dickens promised that he would continue to work with Atlantans on improving services and safety, βwhether you support or oppose deannexation.β Next, senators will discuss SB 113, which would give Buckhead the chance to buy infrastructure from Atlanta. (11 Alive)
- At the end of last month, the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) launched a Vision Zero Action Plan. Its goal is to eliminate traffic fatalities via safety improvements, policies and βother proven strategies.β You can participate in virtual community workshops on Tuesday and Thursday. Another city, Los Angeles, adopted a Vision Zero program in 2015 with a completion date of 2025; it has not yet met its benchmarks or goals. (City of Atlanta, Los Angeleno)
- If you have a child eligible for the Fulton County Schools (FCS) district Pre-K program, itβs time to enroll them! As you know, space is severely limited, and everyone has to participate in a lottery. You have until March 17 to apply via the Qualtrics link the district shared with you. Donβt be late! (Patch)
- And the best Italian restaurant in Georgia is . . . St. Cecilia! 94.9 The Bull bestowed this honor on the restaurant at 3455 Peachtree Road Northeast on Thursday after getting hold of the β5 Reasons To Visitβ list that focused on top Italian eateries in each state. (94.9 The Bull)
