β° Daylight Saving Time Poll! π€
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 66.1% donβt like daylight saving time, while 33.3% do. Only 0.6% donβt care one way or the other.
π° Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:
- Itβs a mass elopement! If you and your significant other want to tie the knot but in a fun way, head to Piedmont Park at 1320 Monroe Drive Northeast on Tuesday. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens will officiate for any group of couples that arrives. So far, 15 couples will be there. βIf itβs legal for you to get married in the state of Georgia, we welcome you,β the event planner said. But hurry; you need to sign up by today, Sunday, and pay $1,000! (Saporta Report)
- If youβre just looking for a place to walk or hike, consider the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area on the Island Ford Parkway. We learned on Saturday that its trail redesign was approved! This means more trail mileage. Now, weβre waiting to find out if bicycle use on these trails will be allowed. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
- Traffic safety is getting a huge boost. We learned last week that pedestrian safety upgrades would get $30 million in funding. They will mainly benefit the downtown areas under the Safe Streets for All program. Look for βrectangular rapid-flashing beacons, pedestrian hybrid beacons, bicycle lanes, crosswalk lighting, roadway reconfiguration, medians, safe speed limits, edge lines, and enhanced delineation for horizontal curves at crash hot spots.β (City of Atlanta)
- Buckhead is the place to go if youβre looking for a singles bar in Atlanta. Insiders on Friday separated the wheat from the chaff by narrowing down the selection to bars where you could actually end up meeting someone. Out of 12 venues, five are in this neighborhood. Which are they? St. Regis, The Blind Pig Parlour Bar, the Rose Bar, The Ivy and Johnnyβs Hideaway. (Thrillist)
- The 22nd Annual Pink Affair is on March 18 at the Intercontinental Buckhead Atlanta at 3315 Peachtree Road Northeast. The event is a fundraiser for the TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation nonprofit organization. Enjoy βa seated dinner, live and silent auctions, live entertainment, and dancingβ for a good cause. (Patch)
