1. On Sunday afternoon, right around 2:30 p.m., the Atlanta Police Department (APD) went to a reported shooting at 294 Deering Road Northwest. Officers found a man “with multiple gunshot wounds,” who later died at the hospital. We have no information yet on suspects. (APD)
2. Were you at the food court of Lenox Square Mall on Monday when it was evacuated? People smelled gas, and authorities evacuated the space. Most people cooled their heels in the mall parking lot. Reportedly, Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) says that a contractor — not affiliated with AGL — “was working on equipment inside the Popeye's” when the gas leak occurred. (11 Alive)
3. It’s official! The Senate State and Local Government Operations Committee approved Senate Bills 113 and 114 with 4–3 votes on Monday. These are the Buckhead cityhood bills. They are now on their way to the full Senate, where additional debate will take place. As you may know, many of the city’s business community and Democratic representatives oppose the idea. Many Buckhead residents and Republican representatives like the idea, saying that “Buckhead is a target . . . for criminals in the city, and Atlanta has not been able to protect us.” (GPB News)
4. Vertical construction of Ponce City Market is officially underway as of Monday. If you didn’t know, project managers are using “Georgia-grown timber” and have their sights set on “targeting net neutral operational carbon.” Construction insiders believe that reliance on local timber is a revolutionary step and “the future of sustainable development.” (What Now Atlanta)
5. You'll have an opportunity to weigh in on the BeltLine project. On March 4, an “open house listening session” lets the public come in and give feedback on the project and its proposed plans going forward. You have the option of attending one of two sessions, scheduled for either 10 a.m. or 12 p.m. (Rough Draft Atlanta)

• "On February 21, 2023, around 2:00 a.m., a Zone 2 officer conducted a traffic stop off Piedmont Rd NE on a Nissan Rogue. The officer spoke with the driver and informed him the reason for the traffic stop. The officer asked the driver for his driver’s license, which he admitted he did not have with him. He provided the officer his information which was checked, and it revealed the driver had active warrants for felony murder and aggravated assault out of the City of Atlanta from a September 22, 2022, fatal shooting."
