Livable Buckhead Invites Public to Create Mini Parks at Lenox Square

Spots in the Lenox Square parking lot along Peachtree Rd. will be transformed into mini parks as part of PARK(ing) Day.

Livable Buckhead is staging a β€œtakeover” of the Lenox Square parking lot and the nonprofit organization is asking the public to help. On Friday, Sept. 16, 24 spots in the Lenox Square parking lot along Peachtree Rd. will be transformed into mini parks as part of PARK(ing) Day. Livable Buckhead is inviting anyone with a creative vision for a small slice of prime Buckhead real estate to register and create their own vibrant urban green space.

β€œPARK(ing) Day gives us a chance to imagine what we could do if we were less dependent on our cars and could use parking spaces in more interesting ways,” said Denise Starling, executive director of Livable Buckhead. β€œBuckhead has a lot of great, creative minds, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.”

PARK(ing) Day is an annual, global event where citizens, artists and activists temporarily transform parking spaces into public places to highlight the need for more urban open space. Livable Buckhead is also using this opportunity to raise funds for PATH400 and other parks and green spaces. Simon Property Group has offered 24 dedicated parking spaces along the front walkway of Lenox Square (in the lot fronting Peachtree Rd.) as Livable Buckhead’s PARK(ing) Day venue. For a $100 registration fee, a participant will receive one spot to transform into a mini park. Two spaces can be reserved for $150; nonprofits can reserve a spot for $50; and individuals can reserve a spot for $25. Sponsorships for Livable Buckhead’s PARK(ing) Day event are also available.

Nationally, participants have built free health clinics, planted temporary urban farms, produced ecology demonstrations, built art installations, opened free bike repair shops and even held a wedding ceremony. Further information is available through the Livable Buckhead website.
