1. Remember when police searched hip-hop singer Young Thug’s Buckhead home last year? Among other things, they found "a Glock with a switch." We learned on Monday that the metro Atlanta area is being flooded with these so-called switches. They turn your average gun into a weapon that can “fire all the bullets inside with just one pull of the trigger.” (WSB-TV)
2. If you’d like to live in the Buckhead digs that Kenny Rogers once called home, you’ll need $4,234,200. That buys you 12 bathrooms, six bedrooms, a ballroom and a locale that has been known to generate plenty of noise complaints. (Beaumont Enterprise)
3. Could Atlanta turn into Birmingham if Buckhead secedes? Sunday’s report claims that the removal of the area from the city would also remove “more than 40% of the assessed value of its property,” along with about 20% of residents. Opinions suggest that while Buckhead would be sitting pretty, the remainder of Atlanta would be left with rising poverty and crime, which would turn it into Birmingham. (Al)
4. On Friday evening, Mayor Andre Dickens attended an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance at the Fox Theatre at 660 Peachtree Street Northeast. At that performance, we learned that middle-schoolers will have the opportunity to attend an Ailey Camp Atlanta in the summer. It’s going to be a “full scholarship program with classes in dance, personal development, creative communications and daily affirmations.” (City of Atlanta)
5. Remember to visit the “From Africa to the Americas: The Diaspora” event currently going on at the Buckhead Branch Library. You have until February 25 to “see the works of Local Historian, National Explorer and World traveler: Mr. Arthur Ratliff.” (Fulton County Library)
