Man Charged With Murder In Killing Of Buckhead Grandmother

Police identified the 23-year-old suspect Monday evening.

BUCKHEAD, GA β€” Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the stabbing death of an elderly woman in her Buckhead home Saturday, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said Monday evening.

Eleanor Bowles, 77, is believed to have interrupted a person who was trying to steal her 2021 Lexus RX 350 from her home on Paces West Terrace Northwest, police said. When she encountered the accused thief, the intruder stabbed her repeatedly, according to police.

The man, identified by authorities as Antonio Brown, is being charged on suspicion of murder, aggravated battery, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, elder abuse and hijacking a motor vehicle.

Bowles' son, who was visiting for the holidays, found the body, Dickens said.

Not only was Bowles a mother, Dickens said she was also a grandmother to two children.

"The killing of Ms. Bowles is understandably rocking our community," he said.

Atlanta Deputy Police Chief Charles Hampton said law enforcement is still investigating how Brown got past the gates of the neighborhood in which Bowles lived but noted he was in the area on foot.
