β° Daylight Saving Time Poll! π€
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 66% donβt like daylight saving time, while 33.5% do. Only 0.5% donβt care one way or the other.
π° Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- Ten residents lost their home when it went up in flames on Monday evening. Firefighters responded to a blaze at a two-story home on the 400 block of Fairburn Road Southwest. They found that the fire was in the kitchen and were able to contain it to this area. The Red Cross is working with the residents. (Atlanta Fire Rescue Department)
- MARTA initially considered light-rail transit for the Clifton Corridor project. However, we learned on Monday that it effectively killed the option and decided to move forward with bus rapid transit instead. Officials explained that connecting Lindbergh Center and Avondale is cheaper when done with buses. That said, officials are vague about the projectβs funding. (SaportaReport)
- Atlanta Gas Light is reportedly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel that is the Piedmont Enhancement Project. Tuesdayβs report outlines that the anticipated finishing date is spring 2023. However, continue to be patient. βSome of the restoration will require temporary lane closures,β a representative cautioned. (Buckhead)
- If your youngster β under 16 β loves basketball, itβs time to sign them up for the upcoming USA Basketball youth camp. This year, the camp will run at Holy Innocentsβ Episcopal School at 805 Mount Vernon Highway Northwest. Boys will train on May 28 and 29; girls' days are May 27 and 28. βInstruction is led by licensed coaches and follows a curriculum set by 10-time gold medal winning coach, Don Showalter.β The application deadline is April 28. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
- The Lewis Crook Estate at 50 Valley Road Northwest is for sale. If you have a little more than $8 million to spend, you can get 11,380 interior square feet of space on 4.86 acres.
