π° Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- Were you caught up in Saturdayβs demonstration at the corner of Ponce de Leon Avenue and West Peachtree Street? Protesters held a rally at the building housing Norfolk Southernβs headquarters. They did so to demand better βwork conditions for rail workers,β a willingness to stop lobbying efforts against safety regulations, and full compensation of Palestine, Ohio residents. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution/paywall)
- Atlanta Public Safety Training Center update: Another protest took place on Friday. This one opposed so-called Cop City, and involved protesters trying to connect with people inside of businesses. They were turned away by lobby security of Peachtree Roadβs Equitable building when trying to visit the offices of the Atlanta BeltLine. They must have had better luck at the FlatironCity Building, βwhere they went inside and never came out.β However, building security βdenied protesters were ever inside the multistory building.β (WSB-TV)
- In related news, the 26-year-old protester who was reportedly killed in self-defense by a state trooper may have had βexit wounds in both palmsβ of his hands, suggesting he was βprobably in a seated position, cross-legged when killedβ on January 18. On Monday, attorneys for the family intend to release the full autopsy report. (NPR)
- The property management company in charge of Buckheadβs Lenox Center at 3355 Lenox Road is doing well! They inked two new leases. One is for DMG Worldwide, which will take up a 1,994-square-foot space. The other newcomer is Kimbrough Law, which agreed to three years for a 4,386-square-foot space. Existing tenant Atlanta Institute of Language signed a three-year lease extension. The TLC Butterfly Effect Spa & Academy is expanding its space in the building. (Connect CRE)
- When will Carmel at 3009 Bolling Way finally open? Buckhead Village patrons have been teased for a couple of years, but it appears that a projected opening for May could be in the works. Insiders blame βdelays in construction and permittingβ for the wait. (Atlanta Eater)
