⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll Results πŸ€”
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. We asked: where do you stand on the issue? You answered! The majority, 66%, don’t like daylight saving time, while 33.5% do. Only 0.5% don’t care one way or the other. Thank you for participating!

πŸ“° Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:

  1. The Atlanta Police Department (APD) responded to reports of a shooting at 3694 Venus Place Northwest on Valentine’s Day. A 17-year-old was shot while in her home. Reportedly, β€œgunfire came into the home from outside, and the victim sustained an injury.” She was taken to the hospital, and the Aggravated Assault Unit is on the case. (APD)
  2. We have previously talked about the Buckhead City movement. However, we also have a Buckhead United group. It plans a meeting on February 23 at the Garden Hills Recreation Center at 339 Pine Street Drive Northeast. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the issue. (Evite)
  3. Do you enjoy Nani’s Piri Piri chicken at 675 Ponce De Leon Avenue Northeast? You have until February 28 to enjoy it; it’ll be the company’s last day. β€œNani's has reached the end of its journey.” Its sister locations, Botiwalla and Spicewalla, are not affected by the closure. (Nani’s Chicken)
  4. Birds of prey, particularly owls and hawks, enjoy excellent habitats around the city. Residents have mixed feelings. Many love seeing them fly around the area or perch on fences. However, Brookwood Hills residents in Buckhead report that a barred owl dive-bombs joggers in the early morning. That said, Tuesday’s report outlines that bird enthusiasts, such as the friendly folks at the Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort, maintain β€œthat it isn’t terribly unusual for birds of prey to appreciate city life.” (Atlanta Magazine)
  5. Men’s haberdashery store H. Stockton is returning to Buckhead. In the spring, it’ll open up in Paces Ferry Plaza next to Pero’s. Longtime residents will remember that the shop used to have a location in Lenox Square, but a β€œburst pipe and insurance shenanigans” resulted in the closure. Everyone who used to shop at H. Stockton is sure to welcome the opportunity to do so again. (Northside Neighbor)
