The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra Gathers an All-Star Cast to Open the Holiday Season with Handel’s Messiah.
ATLANTA, November 08, 2022 — The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra has gathered an all-star cast to open the holiday season with Handel’s Messiah on November 18th and 19th in Atlanta. The Orchestra joins forces with The Cathedral of St. Philip Schola and guest vocalists Raha Mirzadegan, Raquel Winnica, Karim Sulayman, and Mischa Bouvier, to deliver a unique performance of Handel’s greatest hit.
ABO Artistic Director Julie Andrijeski shares leadership with Canon for Music Dale Adelmann to recreate the Messiah on historical instruments as it premiered in Dublin in 1742. “Handel’s original version was an instant success, and I’m sure our listeners will be thrilled to hear this version’s surprising twists in beloved arias, and alittle-known chorus towards the end," remarks Andrijeski. Adelmann adds, “Offered on period instruments and nuanced using performance practices of the Baroque era, this music takes on a life in the Cathedral of St Philip’s gracious acoustic that will surprise and delight aficionados and newcomers to Handel’s Messiah alike.”
Messiah is one of classical music’s most revered and eagerly-anticipated holiday traditions. Andrijeski notes, “It’s a rare treat for audiences and players to experience Handel’s magnificent and powerful Messiah in its entirety. It is an amazing, all-consuming journey. When we all finally reach the Amen, we collectively feel a communal sense of awe, wonder, goodness and fulfillment. It’s a truly special moment.”

The Messiah concert series marks the eighth time the Atlanta Baroque Orchestra has partnered with The Cathedral of St. Philip Schola to make music. The combined ensemble will perform Handel’s Messiah at 7:30pm, Friday, November 18th and 2:00pm, Saturday, November 19th at The Cathedral of St. Philip. The Cathedral is located at 2744 Peachtree Rd NW Atlanta, GA 30305. Tickets may be purchased in advance, online or at The Cathedral Bookstore. A limited quantity will be available at the door. Prices range from $15-$150.
