'Person Of Interest' In Model's Death Arrested In Louisiana: ICYMI

Jokisha Brown, 35, was gunned down outside a Buckhead boutique last July. On Tuesday, Alfredo Capote was arrested in a fraud charge.

BUCKHEAD, GA -- Investigators in Louisiana have arrested a "person of interest" in the 2016 death of an aspiring actress and model who was fatally shot outside a beauty boutique in Buckhead.

Jokisha Brown, a 35-year-old Duluth mother who starred in a handful of local film and online productions, was found slumped over in her black Mercedes SUV in a parking lot on Cheshire Bridge Road last July. She had been shot multiple times.

On Tuesday, police arrested Alfredo L. Capote, 30, in Oil City, Louisiana, after an investigation involving a counterfeit check, according to the Caddo Parish sheriff. Capote and Brown were romantically involved at the time of her death.

Last April, Capote pulled a gun on Brown and allegedly sexually assaulted her in front of her teen son, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Capote allegedly threatened the boy, telling him he'd kill Brown if he told anyone. Police said that Brown was later abducted and taken to a Cobb County hotel, where she was subjected to a β€œbrutal and prolonged assault.”

Brown's body was found in her vehicle at a strip mall one day before her 36th birthday. Police said her slaying may have been "a hit" and said that β€œWhoever did this meant to kill her.”

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said that Capote may be extradited to Georgia, but it's too early to tell.

β€œWe do have a hold on Capote, but he’ll have to face his Louisiana charges before he’s extradited, so I don’t anticipate him returning to Gwinnett anytime soon,” Volkadov told the AJC.

Atlanta's entertainment community laid wreaths at a vigil in northwest Atlanta in the days after Brown's death. She was laid to rest in Jacksonville, her hometown, in a packed church full of family and friends.

β€œShe was just a great person inside and out,” friend Sabrina Ramey told News 4 in Jacksonville. β€œShe walked in a room and filled it with her smile. It was just so beautiful. She was always so positive. Just a great person overall.”
