📰 Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:
- On Thursday, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) received a report of an aggravated assault at 305 Centennial Olympic Park Drive. Reportedly, a man “sustained a laceration from debris after his vehicle was shot at.” The victim had arranged a meeting with “an unknown male to sell a pair of sneakers.” Instead of having a smooth transaction, he was “confronted by a suspect who demanded his belongings. A secondary group of suspects then fired shots at the victim’s vehicle, resulting in glass shattering and striking the victim’s face.” (APD)
- Has your child come home from their middle or high school talking about the new weapons detection system? We learned on Thursday that “Atlanta Public Schools (APS) have installed Evolv Express” technology, which you might already know from entering the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and similar locations. Funding for outfitting the schools came from the CARES Act. “When asked about the success of the new devices, the school system said that it is too early to tell and that he has yet to receive any comments from parents.” (Saporta Report)
- The Tomo Japanese Restaurant at 3630 Peachtree Road Northeast is changing hands. We learned last week that “Nobu-trained Chef and Owner Tomohiro 'Tomo' Naito” retired and handed the baton to new owner Candi Hoang — who quickly went on record stating that the co-executive chefs “worked under their mentor, Chef Naito, for many years,” and no changes are planned. (What Now Atlanta)
- The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival will return to an in-person model for its 23rd run. Scheduled for February 8 through 21, its audiences will be treated to 60 films curated from a nationwide catalog. “Attendees can catch in-person screenings at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, Landmark Midtown Art Cinema, The Plaza Theatre, and the Woodruff Arts Center’s Rich Auditorium.” If you prefer to keep things virtual, you can watch some films online. Festival tickets go on sale Wednesday. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
