Residents Fearful, Angry Over Home Invasions in Buckhead

Recent break-ins cause for concern, residents say.

BUCKHEAD, GA -- A number of reported home invasions in Buckhead have residents rattled and looking for answers.

Although city officials have said that crime is down, many residents in the upscale area are feeling that more should be done to address the issue.

City Councilwoman Felicia Moore, who represents District 9, told Patch that city officials have addressed crime in a number of ways, most notably by facilitating the installation of more security cameras in neighborhoods along with technology that can read license plates.

"But the camera doesn’t arrest anybody," she told Patch in a phone interview. "It's a tool you can put in place to find out who did it, and make the arrest afterward."

Recent high-profle incidents in Buckhead have brought the issue of crime to the fore for homeowners. At a City Council meeting earlier this year, many of them said that they wanted more police officers on neighborhood streets to deter would-be criminals.

Most recently the Atlanta-Journal Constitution recounts the story of Andrew Allman, who said thieves broke into his south Buckhead home, took his keys and his Mercedes. Allman was home at the time.

β€œOur whole neighborhood feels extremely violated,” Allman told the AJC. β€œPeople feel the need to get firearms, which can’t end well.”

Residents were just starting to feel at ease after the September arrest of a man police said had committed several break-ins in Buckhead.

Moore said that many areas around town are dealing with the same issues.

"I know that the concern hasn’t gone away, I think people are getting more and more weary and they're seeing the ratcheting up of those incidents.

"It’s not just there [in Buckhead], there’s home invasions in other parts of our city, too."
