📰 Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- The Atlanta Police Department (APD) arrested a male suspect in a stabbing close to 215 Peachtree Street Northeast on Monday. Reportedly, a witness alerted a Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy passing by that someone had been stabbed. The victim was taken to the hospital; “the suspect has been taken into custody by Atlanta Police and will be charged accordingly.” (APD)
- The proposed public safety training center may not be as shovel-ready as Mayor Andre Dickens told the Rotary Club last week. We learned on Wednesday that a contractor told the mayor that “her peers are deterred from bidding on the project due to the protest surrounding it.” (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution/paywall)
- On December 8, Benecki Homes “was voted down by 58 votes to 1” when it brought the plan to subdivide 3655 Tuxedo Road to the neighbors. However, another player, Mary Norwood, walked in a proposal to the City Council’s Zoning Committee, asking to “establish new zoning restrictions applicable only to Tuxedo Park.” Though council members were unanimous in favor, they decided to forward it to the Zoning Review Board and the Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU), which meets on February 7. No word yet when the Zoning Review Board will discuss the issue. (Buckhead)
- A shoutout to English and Matt Norman, as well as to Ivan Allen IV. We learned on Tuesday that Buckhead Heritage honored these individuals for their dedication to preserving historic resources. The Normans received the Belle Turner Lynch Preservation Award; Allen was honored with the Bob Helget Award for Outstanding Volunteerism. Congratulations! (Patch)
