Sharp-Dressed Man Attempted To Break Into Buckhead Home: Report

Couple startled awake by early morning attempted break-in at Garden Hills home.

BUCKHEAD, GA -- A Buckhead couple got the scare of their lives recently when they were awakened by the sound of someone trying to break into their Garden Hills home.

When Nickie Guthrie went downstairs about 4 a.m. Sunday to check it out, he encountered a very nicely dressed man at his backdoor. He screamed for the man to leave, according to news reports.

β€œWhen I heard that yell and that scream, I thought that was the end,” his wife, Erin Guthrie, told WAGA-TV.

In a panic, she said all sorts of dreadful thoughts ran through her mind. β€œI had this image of like two to three guys in the house with guns and he kept yelling and screaming and I kept thinking, there is somebody down there and they are going to kill my husband,” Erin was quoted as saying.

Buckhead's manicured lawns and nice homes have attracted a steady stream of thieves over the past few months as break-ins and attempted break-ins have been reportedly been on the rise.

Homeowners hope the installation of surveillance cameras will help deter or at least catch many of the thieves.

As for the Guthries, they were able to scare their intruder, who appeared to be inebriated or high on something, away from the home.

The couple called police but the intruder was gone by then. The man caused cosmetic damage to their door and ripped down a couple of brackets from in front of house.
