Slain Music Teacher Remembered at Buckhead School

William E. Haynes, 53, was stabbed to death Saturday outside a storage facility in Sandy Springs.

BUCKHEAD, GA -- Faculty and staff at a Buckhead school are remembering a teacher who was killed recently in a high-profile slaying just outside Atlanta.

The body of William E. Haynes, 53, was found Saturday night at a Sandy Springs storage facility.

He suffered "multiple stab wounds" at the facility, Extra Space Storage, located at 6780 Roswell Road, according to Sandy Springs police spokesman Capt. Mike Lindstrom.

Police said 31-year-old Justin Paul Hess, who was arrested this past weekend in the slaying of his mother in Marietta, is a suspect in Haynes' death.

Hess remains behind bars at the Cobb County Detention Center after a bond hearing on Monday.

Haynes taught music at E. Rivers Elementary School on Peachtree Battle Avenue, Atlanta Public Schools spokeswoman Pat Stclaire said.

"Mr. Haynes came to us from Fulton County Schools and has been a part of the Rivers staff family for 16 months," she said. "This loss touches all of our students and staff, as Mr. Haynes taught music and drama for grades kindergarten through fifth. Grief counselors were made available to staff this morning."

The school uploaded a video of Haynes' kids Monday as a remembrance of him.

Haynes was served as conductor of the Alpharetta City Band, an adult recreation program sponsored by the Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department.

"There is a hole in our hearts that will never be filled," the organization wrote on Facebook. "Rest in peace, Bill Haynes."
