📰 Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:

  1. On Friday, in the early afternoon, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) responded to a single-vehicle crash at 395 Atlanta Avenue Southeast. The driver, who sustained only minor injuries, reportedly lost control “while traveling on I-20 WB and Hill Street.” He ended up crashing into a “fixed structure.” And yes, he was cited. (APD)
  2. Major Ailen Mitchell is the Atlanta Police Department’s Zone 2 section commander, which means that he oversees policing in Buckhead. On Thursday, we learned that violent crimes are the lowest here when compared to the entire city. In contrast, shoplifting is higher. “Around 40% of crime in Zone 2 is vehicle break-ins, with another 10% of crimes being vehicle theft.” Mitchell explains that year-over-year crime has actually gone down. He does acknowledge that juvenile crime is a problem. (Northside Neighbor)
  3. What’s behind the Madre Coffee and Cantina name? We don’t know. What we do know is that it’s a concept thought up by the owner of Café at Pharr and Cultivate Food and Coffee. He’s had his eye on the location at 3550 Peachtree Road Northeast, and filed a building permit application. We also know that it’ll have “an open kitchen, raised seating, as well as both booth and traditional seating, all of which will be housed in roughly 2,000 square feet.” (What Now Atlanta)
  4. The RealReal at 3073 Peachtree Road in Buckhead Village closed; it lasted about a year and a half. Its closing is part of the company’s plan to reduce its workforce by 7% and restructure the company. In addition to Buckhead’s location, Thursday’s report outlines that the company will also close retail locations in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago and San Francisco. (BisNow/paywall)
  5. If you don’t have anything on your dance card for today, Saturday, head on over to the grand opening of Urban Wings at 1825 Piedmont Avenue Northeast. You’ll enjoy “live music, savory bites, activities for kids, and more!” Festivities begin at 2 p.m. Who can resist this type of invitation? (My Urban Wings)
