Pink hearts, boxes of chocolates, and greeting cards – reminders that Valentine’s Day is coming are everywhere. But responses to the holiday are mixed. What are your feelings about the occasion? 1. When neighbors look out for neighbors, (alleged) bad guys don’t have a chance. On Tuesday, in the middle of the night, police officers arrived at 594 Wimbledon Road Northeast. A witness had reported “multiple vehicle break-ins” and saw “an unknown male suspect rummaging through his neighbor’s vehicle.” With a great suspect description in hand, officers went looking for and found an individual matching it, in a parking lot at 1811 Piedmont Avenue. They took him to the Fulton County Jail. (City of Atlanta Police Department)
2. Governor Brian Kemp spent some time Thursday morning at the Cathedral of St. Philip at 2744 Peachtree Road Northwest. From there, he headed to the Convocation Center at the Georgia State University for his 9:30 a.m. inauguration. He’s already gone on record that he’s planning to issue “$1 billion in income tax rebates to Georgians over what he calls inflation relief.” (WSB)
3. What are your plans for Monday? At 10 a.m., the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church at 101 Jackson Street Northeast will host the “Beloved Community Commemorative Service.” Several volunteer opportunities are out there for those who wish to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. day with hands-on service. 4. On February 15, you can join local philanthropists in raising funds for the Honduras Agalta Valley Education Foundation (HAVE). Honduras Hope is putting together a Mardi Gras Carnival at Corso Atlanta that will “feature authentic Latin and Cajun cuisine, a silent auction filled with must-have sports, entertainment and travel items, and inspiring stories shared by members of the Wilderness Team, who partner with the people of the Agalta Valley to improve their quality of life.” (Patch)
5. Did you know that two of Atlanta’s best sushi restaurants are in Buckhead? We learned Wednesday that insiders narrowed down their selections of the best and tastiest sushi to seven restaurants. In Buckhead, they declared that Umi at 3050 Peachtree Road Northwest is the City’s “see-and-be-seen sushi spot” with excellent yellowtail sashimi. The other eatery is Nakato at 1776 Cheshire Bridge Road Northeast, the city’s "oldest Japanese restaurant." Insiders mentioned “adventurous sushi options” and fresh fish turned into “edible art.” (Style Blueprint)
