β° Daylight Saving Time Poll! π€
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 65% donβt like daylight saving time, while 34.1% do. Only 0.8% donβt care one way or the other.
π° Here are the top stories today in Buckhead:
- The Atlanta Police Department (APD) says that a group of teens got into an altercation that left one person dead. Officers responded to 3295 Saville Street Southwest on Monday just before 5 p.m. An adult male was dead, and a female was shot, but alive. (APD)
- The Margaret Mitchell House sits at 979 Crescent Avenue Northeast. The Tudor Revival may soon have a new neighbor. We learned Tuesday that the Trammell Crow Company bought the land in 2020, and is now ready to unveil its proposal β a 30-story building dubbed a βglassy towerβ thatβll take up two blocks. Meanwhile, the house is a designated city landmark and will not be affected. While construction may begin next year, some permits are still under review. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
- Speaking of permits, a member of the review committee issuing the land disturbance permit for the public safety training center is having second thoughts. Reportedly, the member claims the permit was issued improperly because of a possible violation of βa state limit on sediment runoff.β Another review committee member resigned in the middle of last month over the police shooting of a protester. The appeal now βadds a layer of complicationβ that project proponents have to deal with. (Saporta Report)
- Savage X Fenty will celebrate a two-day grand opening on Saturday and Sunday. Head to Lenox Square at 3393 Peachtree Road Northeast to enjoy a DJ, "Xclusive giveaways" and βlight refreshments.β If you havenβt been to the mall in a while, you find Rihanna's store βon the mall levelβ close to Bloomingdaleβs. (Lenox Square)
- Quick! Who serves the best pizza in Buckhead? Insiders suggest you cannot go wrong with Varasanoβs Pizzeria at 2171 Peachtree Street Northeast. What sets this pizzeria apart from so many others is the βclassic sourdough thin-crust pizza.β (Access Atlanta)
