The news that Dante's Down the Hatch will be closing this spring after 42 years left many in Atlanta heartbroken.

The one-of-a-kind restaurant known for its unique decor, live crocodiles and beloved owner Dante Stephensen holds a special place in the hearts and memories of Atlantans.

Atlantic Realty Partners, the firm with a building that sits directly in front of Dante's, plans to build a 10-story, 288-unit high-rise apartment building on the site of the restaurant.

Stephensen himself said he will miss the restaurant and staff immensely. He said the restaurant was his wife and the staff members were like his children.
