Here are the top three stories in Buckhead today:
- Buckhead's historic Whispering Pines mansion has been partially demolished despite recent preservation efforts. City inspectors halted the demolition through a stop-work order after it began on Tuesday. Buckhead records show that the demolition permit was issued. The stop-work order was reportedly issued due to an unannounced ownership change of the property. (Buckhead.com)
- A man accused of killing a woman by pushing her out of a Lamborghini in Buckhead has rejected a plea deal. According to the investigation, Alfred Megbuluba was operating the Lamborghini on Oct. 10, 2021, at the intersection of Peachtree Road and Piedmont Road when the woman fell from the vehicle. The plea deal would have reduced the charges to voluntary manslaughter and would have carried a sentence of 15 years in prison. (WSB Atlanta)
- The Morgan County Sheriffβs Office is investigating a drug and firearms case that has charged 12 individuals. 10 Midgeville residents and two Atlanta residents were arrested for distributing large quantities of methamphetamine and illegally possessing firearms. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex Kalim. (U.S. Department of Justice)
