Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, there are dueling studies pointing to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 63.4% don’t like daylight saving time, while 36.6% do.

📰 Here are the top stories in Buckhead today:

  1. A suspect assaulted a victim Thursday afternoon at 215 Forsyth Street Southwest. The Atlanta Police Department (APD) responded and found the suspect sitting in a car. No sooner had he spotted the officers, than he backed up and hit one of them with an open door. But no, he didn’t escape. Officers pitted him on the I-20WB near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Southwest and took him into custody. (APD)
  2. Who wouldn’t feel safer living next door to an Atlanta police officer? That’s the reasoning behind earmarking a unit at the 321 Pharr Road project for a Zone 2 officer. The units may come with a monthly cost of $2,800 to $5,200, but the one unit will “include a subsidy of one half of the rental amount for up to five years.” Tidal Real Estate Partners out of New York presented this proposal to the Review Committee on Wednesday. Reportedly, residents of the Garden Hills neighborhood are on board with the idea. (Buckhead)
  3. Drive past Georgia’s Own Credit Union at 100 Peachtree, and look up! In honor of Black History Month, the bank gave up its digital billboard space to C. Flux Sing for a mural entitled “Handle With Care.” It features “Black children and notable Civil Rights leaders Madam C.J. Walker and Atlanta native John Wesley Dobbs.” But hurry, this mural will only be on display until February 4. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
  4. Quick: Did you know that Atlanta has a Jugglers Association? (It meets Thursdays at 1083 Austin Avenue.) This group will host the 45th annual Juggling Festival starting today (Friday) and lasting until Sunday. Visit the Yaarab Shrine Center at 400 Ponce De Leon Avenue Northeast to see jugglers practicing their craft and holding workshops. (Atlanta Jugglers Association)
  5. If our recent Valentine’s Day poll showed anything, it’s that plenty of folks have a "bah humbug" approach to the event. Hooters heard you! Head to the location at 935 Memorial Drive Southeast, and mention the “Shred Your Ex” event. Enjoy the satisfaction of feeding photos or letters through a shredder, and be rewarded with 10 free wings! If you’re not big on making a spectacle at the restaurant, you can also do an online shred fest and get a coupon. (Hooters)
